What Do You Do When You See a Problem in Your Organization or Community?

True Story: A couple of days ago, I stepped into our Curiosity Studio (Lower Elementary) unannounced at 8:25 AM to observe the Morning Launch.
I expected to watch our Socratic Guide facilitate a discussion with about 20 learners. What I witnessed instead was nothing short of remarkable.
A 30 minute discussion, starting with mindfulness, ending with a call to action, and filled with powerful questions, engaging dialogue, and even an inspiring video in between. And by the way, it was led and crafted entirely by the learners themselves, no adults involved, truly a masterclass in executive leadership.
The Problem: Some Warriors were not submitting excellent work with their handwriting and metal insets.
These young leaders noticed the issue and decided to take action. Here’s how they demonstrated the highest level of leadership:
Bring Everyone Together – They created a conversation that engaged the entire community.
Notice and Observe – They assessed the situation carefully, without jumping to conclusions or assigning blame.
Pause and Think Before Reacting – They acted strategically, rather than emotionally.
Ask Powerful Questions – “What do you notice?” “What could we do differently?” They guided peers to think critically and reflect.
Bring in Inspiration or Evidence – They shared stories and videos to spark ideas, not dictate solutions.
Facilitate Collective Decision-Making – Through discussion and voting, they ensured the solution was shared and owned by everyone.
End With a Clear Call to Action – They summarized next steps and responsibilities, turning conversation into concrete action.
And they did all of this at just 9 years young.
