Young Minds Engaged in Meaningful Work

Updated: Nov 13, 2021

I know I haven't written a blog post in a while, but that doesn't mean awesome things aren't happening at THA. They happen every single day, all the time. It's the magic that happens when you put learning in the hands of young people and step out of the way. One of those magical things is seeing young minds engrossed in their work, often multiple times throughout the day; they find flow, do focused work, and engage in something meaningful.

Today I was thinking of all of our amazing THA parents and wanted to provide a brief window into our world. Below is a two-minute glimpse of Core Skills time. Please note, this is not staged and it wasn't announced. I simply picked up my phone and started recording. This is a pretty typical example of what happens everyday during Core Skills time, and a constant reminder that within us all, in every human being, is this desire to wake up every day and do something meaningful.

At the same time, let's be real. We are a learner-driven school. Things don't "look" perfect all the time. Things are not always intentional and they are certainly not always quiet. Through any given day, things can and will get messy, they will get loud, noisy, rambunctious, and unruly. But maybe that's the best part, because they also get to figure out how to fix those issues, enhance the culture, and build a community together. That's what makes it a perfect place to learn, the agency to fix the imperfections. They provide some of best learning experiences ever!

Enjoy!
